The View From Here

Posted by KirkUltra7 on May 13th, 2011

This Saturday, May 14, artist, photographer, and Electric Child Leslie Reed will be hosting The View From Here at The Galaxy Lounge in Johnson City, Tennessee. The View From Here is an interactive art show which will be featuring paintings, sculptures, photography, live music, short film screenings, and more, together all at once for a true pop art happening.

Leslie Reed and everyone involved have been doing some amazing work on this show. The View From Here is looking brilliant and it’s already been receiving a lot of very cool press.

The Johnson City Press: Leslie Reed Enjoying “The View From Here”

Leslie Reed’s bohemian lifestyle has led her around the world, from a position as assistant director of a contemporary art gallery in Santa Monica, Calif., to a year-long stint teaching English to young children in South Korea.

Upon returning to the Tri-Cities last August, Reed felt the desire to share her life’s experiences in a way that reconnected her with her roots.

. . .

“The idea of bringing together as many art forms as possible and inviting the viewer to interact physically with the work and create collaborative new pieces is the goal, and what I think sets the show apart,” Reed said. “People tend to look at art as something up on the wall, something separate from them, something that may not have anything to do with them or their lives. It may be something they can appreciate or look at, but it’s at a distance. What I like about people making their own work and people coming together and all participating is that it brings it so much more into people’s lives. This doesn’t have to be just for a select few, gifted, incredible people. I can get something out of this myself. I can enjoy this process because it’s so much fun.”

Bellydancer Kahleena Smith will also perform.

Evangelion AMVs – Rammstein and Sigur Ros

Posted by KirkUltra7 on April 29th, 2011

jBot showed this to me a few years ago. It’s an anime music video featuring footage from Neon Genesis Evangelion cut to the song Engel by Rammstein. It just popped back into my consciousness and I had to post it online.

I always thought this video was amazing. Very well cut and definitely a favorite. While I was searching for it though, I came across another AMV that I might be loving even more. It’s Neon Genesis, this time set to Sæglópur by Sigur Ros.

The two songs are very different, but both videos do a fantastic job at capturing the feel of the series. It would be an understatement to say Evangelion had a profound effect on the consciousnesses of people all over the world. Fans really connected with the series and its characters, and videos like these definitely show it.

The original creators of Neon Genesis are currently in production of a set of films remaking the original series. The first two have been released, and the third and fourth are still on the way.

It’s been a direct adaptation for the most part, but in the second film they introduced a new pilot named Mari Illustrious Makinami. . .

Radio8Ball – Music as Tarot (with Rae Dawn Chong)

Posted by KirkUltra7 on March 2nd, 2010

Okay, this is cool. It’s a show called Radio8Ball, a mystical show which answers people’s questions by analyzing randomly selected songs as Tarot cards.

The show is hosted by Andras Jones from A Nightmare on Elm Street IV.* I first discovered the show in an article about Andras and fountain synchronicities written by Jake Kotze at The Blob. Jake Kotze’s synchromystic videos are now a regular part of the Radio8Ball series, and the latest show actually featured actress Rae Dawn Chong responding to a video Kotze made about her.

Rae Dawn then goes on to ask her own question of the Pop Oracle.

Rae Dawn Chong pt. 1

Rae Dawn Chong pt. 2

Radio8ball was once a radio show and podcast, but now is performed as a live stage show in Seattle. Upcoming celebrity guests include Jeffrey Combs, who played Weyoun on Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Seth Green, and John C. Reilly in a Dewey Cox themed show.

There was even an episode of the podcast featuring Bobby Hill from King of the Hill, who asks the Pop Oracle if ABC would pick up his canceled series.

I thought this Andy Dick episode was fascinating as well.

All the songs are independent and performed live by their musicians, making it a very cool place to find new bands. A lot of great bands have gone through there. Andras himself has done some songs on there too.

There is an internet application on the Radio8ball site that lets you commune with the Pop Oracle on your own. I asked, “How does the world peacefully free itself from corrupt rulers?” and it brought up a song called “Flashback BBQ.” The Tarot card associated with it was the ten of swords. The song’s relevance to the question I asked was surprisingly impressive, and a complete analysis of the answer might actually require a post of its own.

Briefly however, it would seem to imply that all our world leaders need to take hallucinogens.

*And speaking of Nightmare on Elm Street IV. . . What!? Are you kidding me!? The Fat Boys vs Freddy!?!? That is amazing! How can they even waste our time with a remake when they’ve already got something as classic as this out there? Check it out!

Black Ice and the Analog Brothers Remix Album

Posted by KirkUltra7 on October 30th, 2009

(So many strange synchonicities surrounded this album for me, I had to do a post.)

In related rap news, Rex Roland (who was one of the Analog Brothers along with Ice-T and Silver) has announced that he is planning to do a remix of the Analog Brothers’ Album in 2010 with eight never-before-heard tracks.
